Orangien Hoff met de marmere fonteyn van de drie gratien, Romeyn Hooghe (1685)The print shows the complex of pleasure gardens of Enghien near Brussels. The plan is part of a series of prints commissioned by Nicolaas Visscher II (1649-1702) and engraved by Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708). This print shows the outsite orangery of the Parc d'Enguien where orange trees were planted. Most orangeries were built over and were associated with the legendary gardens of the Hesperides, where Hercules received the golden apples as reward for his virtuousness. It is no coincidence that a statue of Hercules was erected close to the orangery.
